Kar Vision Eye Hospital started in 2010 with the simple objective of giving affordable quality eye care to the people of Odisha adhering to the ideology of 4 Cs. COMPASSION, COMMITMENT, COMPETENCE & COLLABORATION
Dr Ashok Kumar Nanda, Dr Sanghamitra Kanungo and Dr Anurag Mishra who are well known ophthalmologists in their own field formed a team and joined hands with Kar clinic and hospital to start this corporate venture so that the people of Odisha get the full advantage of all modern facilities for eye care and the hospital can work on a model to give comprehensive and affordable eye care which would give justice to all our patients bringing satisfaction and smile to every face. Now we have got a magnificent team of doctors, paramedical, administrative and other supporting staff to achieve our goal.
In the past years we have crossed several milestones. Our hospital is now considered a hallmark in providing quality eye care with state of the art technology. It has become an ISO 9001-2008 certified hospital. It now not only provides patient care services but also involved in vision research, technical and professional support to other hospitals and imparting education through CME and live surgical workshops and patient awareness activities . We have added various subspecialty like vitreo retina, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, squint, neurophthalmology, oculoplasty and low vision clinic. We have added newer diagnostic tools like the spectral domain OCT with anterior segment imaging, Optical biometer, UBM, SLT laser, Corneal topographer and Specular microscope to our armamentarium. We have shifted to a new premise and the old building is being geared up for the charitable wing of our hospital so that our services are now going to be extended to the under privileged; offering subsidized or free investigation and surgical treatments.
Last year we had organised CME programmes nor only at Bhubaneswar but also at Balasore, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Angul. We were instrumental in organizing the first mid term conference of the OSOS in September 2013. We organised and participated in three Live surgery workshops last year at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. We had trained 32 young ophthalmologists and PG students of our state on Glaucoma evaluation through GSEF programme. Various programmes like state level celebration of world sight day, Free Glaucoma screening in Glaucoma awareness week, Essay competition at various schools for increasing awareness for blinding diseases were conducted last year.
We are still in our formative years and in such a period of fluidity, the clinical side of an institution always occupies the dominant hemisphere. We have strived to maintain our clinical services at the highest definable standards with appreciable success. However, it is also noteworthy that our participation in the academic field has been no less palpable. To note a few of our endeavors in the academic arena, Dr Ashok Nanda attended the mid term conference of UP Ophthalmological society and the annual conference of OSWB as a guest faculty and participated in the annual conference of Bihar Ophthalmological Society as a guest surgeon. Dr. Sanghamitra Kanungo attended the clinical observership programme at the Bascon Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, USA, Dr. Anurag Mishra was invited by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society to participate as a guest faculty in it’s annual conference. He attended the mid term conference of Assam and North East Ophthalmological society, annual conference of OSWB and the annual conference of Kolkata academy of Ophthalmology as a guest faculty besides attending the live surgery workshop organized by Sushrut Eye Hospital and ORBIS as a guest faculty.
We also plan to start manpower training including training of ophthalmologists for SICS and Phaco, and short term fellowship training in comprehensive ophthalmology, Glaucoma and Retina very soon.
